Finger Woes

So, it's been since January. JANUARY!!! since N put a bolt through his finger. Yes, a bolt, not a bullet as previously thought at gymnastics when a girl misheard gym-girl explain why we missed a day.
~Really, I do admit that we are 'mountain-folk', (NOT to be confused with rednecks, of course) but we do not sit around seeing who can shoot through hands and admit defeat when we miss and oppsie, got a finger that time. Well...at least not yet.~

So, anyway, yes, we've had N home from work for many weeks now. He was supposed to go back to work a couple of weeks ago, but upon a re-check at the hand clinic, there was a problem (cover your eyes and skip over this part up ahead if you don't like to hear of yucky stuff LA LA LA LA I'M NOT READING ) Still lots of gooey stuff, pus,etc coming out of the finger when she was squeezing it. So, they are going in to see what the problem is and remove the infected parts, flesh etc. Mmmm. Who's ready for lunch now?
Of course, I have a list a mile long of things that need to be done around the house, but finger soreness seems to pop up at the most opportune time (you know...when I pull out my list of dad things to do) but doesn't seem to be an issue whilst playing computer games.

:::did you catch my sarcasm there? but then again, maybe I'm just a little hypocritical being my online time...but, being a mom, I can multi-task online, and he can't, so it doesn't count:::

All moms do this, yk...Nursing the baby, reading a book to the little's, looking over math, and spelling sheets, as well as calling the library to explain how there really WAS 2 Bob books together, not the 1 they scanned in returned, clean up the toddler's face of ketchup and honey she mixed together for lunch (yes there was other food on the plate, but she just used the green beans as a spoon to mix up the yummy-in-her-eyes-only concoction, never mind it looking like puke, which, coincidentally, is covering the towels spinning in the laundry from said toddlers overindulgence-of-cookie-dough-while-hiding-under-the-table-so-no-one-can-see-her the night before, and then proceeding to use the green beans as a dipping stick.) as well as sorting important papers from the kids artwork/schoolwork with my toes, responding to various posts, checking the bank accounts, and listing a few auctions, all at the same time... meanwhile, the kids can be literally jumping off the furniture trying to swing from the ceiling fan IN THE SAME ROOM he's playing on the computer in, and he won't notice until I yell at him from the other side of the house. "Mom Sense" he calls it. I can think of something else to call it on his part, but I'll refrain.
Nevertheless, it's a good thing one of us has it or none of the kids would have made it past 2. Ahhh, the never-ending talents of a mom, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Now since this happened at work, at first it was YAY...at least we'll have *something* coming in, (well, whenever it actually starts, they aren't exactly known for their promptness) and then it was CRAP...we're only getting half of our income, and when you're barely making it by as it is, thats a huuuuuge blow. For the most part, everyone is OK with waiting for payments etc (like they have a choice!?) It's gonna be interesting trying to catch up. Not looking forward to that at all, but what can you do? Add in going from weekly paychecks to biweekly WC checks, it's been a test of creative budgeting to get all the things we need to get paid, and it doesn't always work, but we're doing the best we can. :) I was semi-excited that maybe, just maybe we could do all these fun and wonderful things together with him home, but then money...or lack thereof...came into play and we haven't done much of anything, unfortunately.

Back to the finger.lol So here is the before shot when it fitst happened (WARNING>>> A LITTLE GRAPHIC):

Yes it went all the way through, but stopped at the skin on the bottom of the finger. It split the bone through the middle and shattered it into many pieces. Being at the end of the finger (lucky?lol) there's not much they can do, he'll just lose feeling/ligaments etc at the tip. If it had been in the middle area, it would need to be repaired by surgery. The surgery today is to open it all up and see what's going on in there. The thinking being that some flesh got caught inside, and it got infected and then the outer healed over. Guess we'll find out this afternoon!

Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers, they are truly appreciated!

UPDATE: Surgery went well, they got it all opened up, found some stuff next to the bone that was removed and sent off to the lab to make sure it's not 'foreign' and will get the results back later. It's still wrapped till Monday, since the nail was removed and it tends to bleed a lot there. He'll go back in a week for a recheck.
